[ARCHIVED] Northlake Police Department Moves to New Facility

The Town of Northlake Police Department will officially move their offices to a new facility effective May 8, 2020.

Chief of Police Robert Crawford said the new facility, located adjacent to Town Hall at 1600 Commons Circle, features new technology that will allow the department to better serve residents and room to accommodate the growing police force.

“Our biggest asset are the men and women who serve the community of Northlake, be it police, public works, or other staff – all are essential to the smooth operation of services we provide,” Crawford said. “The new Police building will allow us to serve the community better with a larger lobby area, soft interview room, and public restroom in the entrance area of the building.  The camera system installed on the outside of the building will allow members of the community to make package exchanges or child custody transitions in the front parking lot in a safe environment.”

The new building also features a training room for continued professional education within the department. The training room, which comfortably seats 10 to 12 occupants, will also function as a community room when not in use for local organizations in need of a meeting space.

“If a community group or an association needs a small meeting room to discuss business, projects, etc., the Police Department facility will accommodate the community by allowing the use of the police training room,” Crawford said. “The training room will seat up to approximately 12 people, will have a large screen to view presentations and is a secure meeting space.”

After approximately 7 years in the former location, Mayor Rettig and the Northlake Town Council determined that the department had outgrown the existing facility and required additional technology to better serve Northlake residents.

“I am very proud of this new facility which better reflects the professional services provided by the Northlake Police Department,” Rettig said. “The investment in a leased space minimizes the cost to replace the police department offices with a high-quality facility that our residents expect and our officers deserve, in a location that better serves the public. We are pleased to provide upgraded spaces for our officers to continue the critical work that they perform on behalf of the Town of Northlake.”

The department’s former facility, located on FM 407 near the Northlake Public Works Building, will function temporarily as an annex for the public works department.

The Town will release notification of an official grand opening event following the eventual recommendation from Governor Abbott that all businesses and organizations may continue with non-essential social gatherings and events.
