[ARCHIVED] Permit Not Required to Repair Damaged Pipes with a Licensed Plumber

If you have damage from this week's winter storms you may be wondering if a permit is necessary for any of the repair work.  During this emergency situation, the Town will not require permits for repairs of burst pipes as long as a licensed plumber is used.  Plumbers must register to do work in the Town of Northlake.  Any licensed plumber may register for free at http://www.town.northlake.tx.us/195/Contractor-Registration.  A list of plumbers with a current registration is available at http://www.town.northlake.tx.us/185/Registered-Contractors.

More significant repairs such as replacing a water heater or furnace will require a permit as required by Town code and state law.  Minor cosmetic repairs that are not structural in nature or do not involve electrical, mechanical, or plumbing work do not require permits.  Emergency repairs may be started without a permit, but permits and inspections may still be required and should be requested as soon as possible.  In emergency situations where it may be necessary to cover work before an inspection, photos may be provided to document that the work meets code.

Building permit applications are available online at http://www.town.northlake.tx.us/193/Planning-Development.  Please use the Miscellaneous Permit Application for repair jobs.  It provides instructions for submitting the permit via email.  If you have any questions regarding building permits and inspections for emergency repairs, please email nreddin@town.northlake.tx.us.
